Get Active for Wildlife

These days, some members of the animal kingdom find that they can’t take a step, wiggle a fin, or flutter a feather without being shot at or lured to their deaths. As humans encroach on the habitats of deer, ducks, fish, and other animals, we are forcibly elbowing them out of their native homes, typically killing them in the process. Here’s how you can help stop it.

Post “No Hunting” and “No Fishing” Signs on Your Land and Join or Form an Anti-Hunting Organization
Call 1-800-448-NPCA to report poachers in national parks to the National Parks and Conservation Association. Encourage your legislators to enact or enforce wildlife protection laws, and insist that nonhunters be equally represented on wildlife agency staffs.

Declare Amnesty on Fishing and Turn in Your Tackle
Our Fish Empathy Project aims to relegate fishing to the historical trash heap. Fish deserve compassion just as all animals do. They are intelligent and they experience pain and suffering every bit as much as any dog or cat. We’re calling on people to send us their old poles, tackle, and other fishing gear so that we can use it in our demonstrations and other Fish Empathy Project endeavors.

Write Letters to the Editor
Sometimes the pen (or word processor) really is mightier than the sword—and you don’t have to be Shakespeare! Writing letters to newspapers, businesses, and legislators is an easy, effective way to help animals.

Enclose a Leaflet With Every Bill Payment
Stand up for animals with every bill that you pay!

Share Our Videos in Public Places
A picture is worth a thousand words, and we can think of no more effective tool for getting people to alter their lifestyle.

Sponsor a Speaker (or Arrange to Give a Talk Yourself!)
This is easier than it sounds and can be one of the most effective means of advocacy. Local schools, colleges, universities, and civic clubs are all likely to host speakers on helping wildlife.
