Dear Sirs:

Having had no response to our May 17th letter to you pledging to help raise $15,000 toward construction of a new shelter, it was a disappointing surprise to hear, through the media, that the Yadkin County Commissioners are giving “mixed reviews” to our good faith offer to help the county meet basic, humane standards of animal sheltering. The right thing to do of course would have been to respond to PETA rather than relay messages through local media outlets. We write and call you directly and would appreciate reciprocation of this common decency.

Yadkin County is in no position to refuse financial assistance; the animals who suffer in the county’s dilapidated “shelter” and suffocate to death in the old gas box need all the help they can get, as they desperately have for years.

Now that county officials have finally acknowledged the dire need for improvement at the shelter, it is your duty to finally provide the animals in your care and custody with basic standards of care and with a humane death. We trust you will not let your constituents and their animals down by deliberately stunting the long-overdue plan to move forward.

Our offer for assistance still stands. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Daphna Nachminovitch, Manager
Domestic Animal Issues & Abuse Department
