September 20, 2005, 6 p.m.: Dozens of Canine Survivors of Katrina Now Calling PETA Home
This morning, members of one of PETA's Hurricane Katrina animal rescue teams arrived at PETA's headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, with 32 dogs rescued from the flood-ravaged city of New Orleans.
A recreational vehicle, driven some 1,000 miles over the past two days by three PETA staff members, pulled into our parking lot shortly after 11 a.m. and was happily greeted by our staff members and local community residents who will be fostering and caring for the animals. Many of the dogs are extremely scared and stressed, but today we found each of them a quiet, comfortable place to rest. All the dogs have visited our dog park, and some spent the afternoon in various offices and departments within our building.
Be sure to check back at PETA.org in days to come for scenes from the dogs' arrival and news on their progress. In the meantime, here are a few images from today's events.
