September 19, 2005, 7 p.m.: Please Thank Lt. Gen. Honore for His Compassionate Work
As you may recall, we wrote on September 9 that Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, commander of the First U.S. Army and the official in charge in New Orleans, had announced that as his agents evacuated the city's remaining human residents, rescue personnel would have animal carriers to facilitate the evacuation of cats and dogs as well. PETA had asked him on September 6 to allow the evacuation of animals with their families.
It was reported today that Lt. Gen. Honore personally rescued a cat, Gumbo, and a hamster, Hammie, this week.
Please take a moment to write to Lt. Gen. Honore and thank him for his compassionate work for everyone—regardless of species—affected by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans:
