September 16, 2005, 8 p.m.: Americans Urged to Ask Louisiana Governor to Order National Guard to Rescue Animals
Nearly three weeks after Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast and left thousands of animals dead and dying in her wake, our team on the front lines in New Orleans continues to pluck starving and dehydrated survivors from flooded homes.
But time is running out for these animals, and there simply isn’t enough time for our rescuers to reach the thousands of animals still in danger. Members of various state National Guard units have aided our team in its work but only out of the goodness of their hearts.
Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco has the power to order the Louisiana National Guard to rescue animals as a part of its vital work in New Orleans and beyond. Please call on the governor today to issue such an order. Kindly tell her that her beleaguered constituents’ animals deserve better than to be left to die slowly in the wreckage of her battered state:
The Honorable Kathleen Blanco
Governor of Louisiana
