September 9, 2005, 7 p.m.: More Good News—Lt. Gen. Honore's Staff to Facilitate Companion-Animal Rescues
In another victory for animals left in harm's way by Katrina and some officials, Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, commander of the First U.S. Army and the official in charge in New Orleans—who PETA asked on September 6 to allow animals to be evacuated with their families—announced this afternoon in a press conference that as his agents evacuate the city's remaining human residents, rescue personnel will have animal carriers to facilitate evacuating cats and dogs as well!
